Are the police going a little overboard with the internet stings?

I have read about so many of these internet stings targeting people who "prey" on teens. Although it is wrong , are there any numbers of actual teens being abducted or any stories of this really happening. It seems to me that not only is it entraptment when there are no actual minors involved in the sting but a waste of our taxpayer money having these cops chatting about and coercing these people into meeting..
