Should other industries be leading us away from fossil fuel?

Rising fuel costs are making EVERYTHING more expensive. Soon inflation will make all products less affordable, and people will stop buying anything that isn't absolutely necessary. Not good for the GDP! Any industry that is losing out because of the profit grabbing of the oil industry should be leading the charge to make oil obsolete.
