Can birth control affect your thyroid gland?

I had a baby august 08, she's nowalmost 7 months old. I've been on oscella(generic form of yasmin) birth control pills since she was about 2 months old..so I've been on birth control pills for 5 months basically. Out of all the blood test I had during pregnancy and even after, there were no show of a thyroid problem...well today I found out my thyroid gland is not producing enough hormones(they are lower than they should be)...so the dr is giving me some pills to see if that levels it out. I've asked two drs if thyroid glands can be affected by birth control pills and one said "I don't think" and the other said "No"..but I'm hearing that it can affect your thyroid gland..? anyone know for sure?
