Why has the disappearance of Madeleine McCann so popular?

I wouldn't say its "popular" but has been the most widely reported abductions in years. Why? Because her parents have been so determined to find her and one of the only ways to do this is to make sure everyone knows who she is but flooding the media will pictures and news stories
